Our wines and our approach to winemaking are an extension of our farming philosophy that "less is more". We strive to make the best wines from the fruit that comes from each harvest, with the least amount of fuss and intervention. Our primary objective is to produce wines that best reflect the true character of the fruit.
The 2014 Syrah was harvested on September 9, 2014 at 28 brix and a pH of 4.11. The fermented wine was aged for 18 months in neutral oak puncheons and bottled in March, 2016. Bottle aging continued for 6 months until release of the wine in September 2016.
The 2014 Syrah is a big and balanced wine with expressions of blackberries and blueberries at its core. Within the layers of the wine you can also find hints of black pepper, violets and bacon fat. 150 cases produced.
2017 Grenache Rose
The Grenache grapes used in production of our 2017 Grenache Rose were harvested on September 15, 2017 at 22 brix and a pH of 4.14. The production of the wine followed a similar path as prior vintages of our Grenache Rose. The wine was bottled in March 2018 and released on June 23, 2018.
The 2017 Grenache Rose is a delight! It has aromas of strawberry, watermelon and ruby red grapefruit. The wine is light on the palate with soft tannins, fresh acidity and a long finish. 470 cases produced.
2015 Tannat - JUST RELEASED!
Harvested on September 9, 2015, the Tannat emerged from the vineyard at 20.5 brix and a pH of 3.68. It was aged in neutral oak puncheons for 18 months, bottle aged for an additional 12 months, and released for purchase in July 2019. The resulting wine is bright and lively, with excellent presence on the palate and great structure provided by its tannins. Cherry, black currant and tobacco undertones form the essence of the wine. 150 cases produced.
2016 Cabernet Franc
New to the Yosemite Cellars portfolio of single varietal wines is the 2016 Cabernet Franc. Harvested on September 13, 2016 the fruit was picked at 24.8 brix and a pH of 3.8. The wine was fermented in neutral oak puncheons for 18 months and bottle aged for an additional 6 months. The wine was released on September 29, 2018.
Lively in the mouth, the 2016 Cabernet Franc is fresh and fruit driven with blueberry and strawberry elements dominating its flavor profile. This wine is young and will continue to develop as it bottle ages in the years to come. Only 50 cases produced.
Keeping with the Yosemite Cellars approach that no two Firefall wines will be the same, the 2014 Firefall is a delightful blend of Cabernet Franc and Grenache grapes from our vineyard. This is our first use of Cabernet Franc in the Firefall blend, and it is providing a delicious new flavor component to the wine. Nicely balanced with great intensity, the wine is framed by silky tannins with palate pleasing elements of brambly raspberry, marionberry and framboise. The 2014 Firefall - lively, voluminous, and fun! 112 cases produced.
